In-House Counsel, Corporate - Regulatory Compliance


The In-House Counsel, Corporate/Regulatory Compliance role contributes to the success of Savers/Value Village by providing legal counsel and advice in all areas of the Company, including, in particular, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, contract negotiation and other legal needs. This position reports to the General Counsel.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Drafts, negotiates, and reviews commercial contracts.
  • Oversee professional fundraiser registration compliance.
  • Implement new template agreements and best practices for corporate contracts
  • Provide legal support to Sourcing operations.
  • Perform legal research and understand explanation of legal principles; apply the research results and legal principles to factual circumstances.
  • Prepare documents and direct legal issues.
  • Collaborate with internal Savers’ functions to research, review and analyze issues and provide information for management review.
  • Draft, summarize or review legal documents.
  • Perform records research.
  • Perform legal research.
  • Prepare management reports.
  • Prepare correspondence.
  • Assist in developing and implementing electronic Fundraiser registration system.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extremely organized with high attention to detail and the ability to plan ahead and work within rigorous deadlines.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office (i.e., Outlook-email, calendaring & contacts, Word, Excel, and Adobe).
  • Must have strong communication, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have strong negotiation skills
  • Must have excellent writing and inter-personal skills.
  • Must have a high level of integrity, ethics and professionalism.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles.
  • Ability to present to Senior Management and Executives on complex legal and regulatory matters. 
  • Ability to effectively partner with, and manage, outside counsel.
  • Ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.
  • Ability to follow through to effectively manage workflow.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently or as a member of the team.
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use discretion in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive materials and issues.
  • Ability to work within Savers’ culture.


Minimum Required Education, Training and Experience:

  • Law Degree required.
  • Admitted with WSBA.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with contracts, regulatory compliance, and/or corporate governance/securities experience
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in law firm or in-house legal department


Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to receive detailed information visually through written communication (both physical and electronic).
